Shopping: Handmade by Haitians

We love to help support the people of Haiti as well! Every penny of sales from the Handmade by Haitians items go directly to the individual who made them. This support is life sustaining, literally. It gives them a means of paying their bills (yes, just like you and I....they pay rent), and it gives them a means to pay for food and education expenses. Often times, it's not just the younger children (elementary age) that attend school as you might think. Older children and young adults realize the importance of their education and will sometimes start primary school in their teens. Can you imagine being 16, 17 or 18 years old and just starting to learn at a primary level? Their drive and passion for learning and helping themselves is inspiring to say the least.

Handmade by Haitians

These handmade items are each unique and make great gifts! During our trip to Haiti we had an interpreter who made us bracelets with our names on them. He also made one for each of our family members. As his way of saying thank you for helping him with his English! When in fact it was him who was helping us the entire week. After we returned home we sent him BOXES of embroidery thread to make bracelets to sell to other missionaries that came in the future. There is always a shopping day and it's like having tourists to buy your wares while they are there. We fully expected him to use the materials to make items for Haiti, but he sent them home to us to offer to our friends and family here. One church member even bought some as bookmarks for her bible! I'd never even thought of that. So, pick your favorite colors, your favorite words, buy one for yourself and one for a friend. Every penny of the sale of these bracelets goes back to Haiti.
